PgDip in HIV/Aids Management – Module 3
Module 3 investigates the requirements and practicalities of an effective HIV/Aids response at a community level and in the world of work:
Community organisation and mobilisation for social justice advocacy:
The premise of this unit is that HIV/Aids is a social justice issue that is directly and indirectly affected by socioeconomic, political and cultural factors. We discuss societal problems relating to HIV/Aids and the implication for HIV programmes. In this context, different approaches to community organisation and mobilisation and how to design comprehensive interventions to address HIV/Aids-related social problems are explored.
Designing and developing an HIV policy:
An effective HIV/Aids workplace policy is key to the world of work playing its part in bringing an end to Aids. The content explains the function of an HIV/Aids policy and look at the relevant laws, guidelines and principles that guide the development of such a policy. On the practical side, the process of policy development (e.g. tools and strategies) and how to navigate challenges is explored.
Legal framework and organisational practices regarding employment of workers with HIV/Aids:
It’s important to understand the legal framework relevant to HIV/Aids. International, regional and national laws pertaining to the constitutional and legislative protection of employees living with HIV are therefore covered. In the same vein, the legal implications for airborne epidemics such as TB and Covid-19 in the world of work are discussed.
