Dr Munya Saruchera, senior lecturer

Munya joined the Africa Centre team as a senior lecturer in December 2020 and was interim director between 2021 and 2024. He teaches the ethics module for the postgraduate diploma and MPhil programmes. Munya also copresents a master’s course on corruption and health at the SU School for Public Leadership and a master’s course in the sociology of sustainable agriculture at the SU Faculty of AgriSciences. In addition, he supervises master’s and PhD students, conducts fundraising for research grants and undertakes research with various collaborators at SU and beyond. On a broader platform, Munya represents the Africa Centre on the research development programme managed by the SU Division for Research Development (DRD) called the Public Squares initiative, as well as the SUNRISE programme, SU’s version of the prestigious national Future Professors Programme (more information here). When Munya is not pursuing or sharing knowledge, he loves to spend time with family and in his community, do gardening and go on long road trips. He is originally from the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe.
